BORNO IMAN PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO UNIMAID VICE-CHANCELLOR
The Borno State branch of the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN) has paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, in his office on Thursday, 13th November, 2025.
In his remarks, Professor Mele commended IMAN for its philanthropic activities and community services within and outside hospitals across the state. He urged the Association to extend its advocacy programs to include students of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that community service remains a core component of the University’s mandate and assured IMAN of the University’s continued support in achieving their shared objectives. He further commended the Association for its effort in establishing the IMAN Hospital, which has reached an advanced stage of construction. Professor Mele called on philanthropists, as well as government and private organizations, to support the completion of the hospital project.
Earlier, the President of IMAN, Borno State branch, Professor Mohammed Modu Gofama Mustapha, explained that the Association was established in the early 1990s with the aim of promoting Islamic values among Muslim professionals in hospital, providing humanitarian services, and contributing to community development.
Professor Gofama briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the progress of the IMAN Hospital project, noting that about 60 percent of the construction had been completed. He, however, expressed concern over financial constraints that have slowed down the project and appealed for the University’s support.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of the hospital’s construction plan and progress report to the Vice-Chancellor by the Chairman of the IMAN Hospital Committee, Barrister Abdulwahab Aliyu.
