UNIMAID ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS HONOUR VC, DVC, DEAN, OTHERS
The Vice-Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the National Association of Architecture Students (NAAS), UNIMAID Chapter.
The award was received on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Mohammed Ahmed Waziri, during a brief but colourful ceremony tagged “From Vision to Reality” held on Thursday, 13th November 2025, at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor commended the leadership of the architecture students for their teamwork and dedication, describing the event as a celebration of academic and leadership excellence. He encouraged them to sustain the spirit, noting that it would inspire younger students.
Presenting the award to the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Studies, Professor Peter Sale, said the recognition was in appreciation of the VC’s exemplary leadership and his continued support to the Department of Architecture and the entire faculty.
Other award recipients included: Professor Mohammed Ahmed Waziri (DVC Academic) – Award of Excellence, Professor Peter Sale (Dean) - Dean’s Award of Honor and Legacy, Mrs. Altine Bomai (Faculty Officer) - Faculty Officer Award of Excellence,
Arc. Hyeledzira Garba Mshelia (HOD) – Head of Department’s Award of Excellence and Arc. Fatima Wakil (represented by Khadija Musa Gora) - Studio Coordinator’s Award for Dedication and Mentorship.
The ceremony also featured several student awards presented to outstanding graduating students for leadership, academic excellence, and discipline-based achievements.
Student Awardees Included: Gana Mshelia- Best Graduating Design Student, Nuraini Ibrahim - Best Graduating Construction Student and Abdullahi Mohammed Abba - Best Graduating Graphics Student and
Muhammad Hashim - Best Graduating Structures Student. Others include,

Khaleed Muhammad Ramadan - Departmental Impact & Service Award,
Jibrillah Ali Lawan - Academic Excellence Award, Muhammad Sadiq - Academic Leadership Excellence Award, Zainab Matawalli - Academic Excellence Award,
Mustapha Abubakar - Leadership Excellence Award, Abdulrahman Hamidu Pindiga - Leadership Excellence Award, Jesse Wadai - Award for Distinction in Architecture and Mustapha Baba Ali - Best Graduating Student Award,
The event brought together staff, students, and invited guests to celebrate excellence, leadership, and contributions to architectural education at UNIMAID.
