UNIMAID ORGANISES TWO DAY SYNDICATE SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP ON MANUSCRIPTS DEVELOPMENT
The Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele reiterated the University Management's commitment to training and retraining of its staff for human capacity development.
The Vice-Chancellor made this known, while declaring 'a Two-day Sensitization Workshop on Manuscripts Development opened, titled: 'HOW TO ACCESS TETFUND FUNDING TO PUBLISH MANUSCRIPTS INTO BOOKS'.
The workshop was organized by the committee on Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) publication of academic manuscripts into books.
The workshop was held on Wednesday, 3rd September, 2025 at Muhammadu Indimi International Conference Centre, University of Maiduguri.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by Professor Ibrahim Dauda illaya of the Faculty of Pharmacy, stated that the manuscript development committee was constituted by the university management to scrutinize publishable manuscripts to conform with the laid down guidelines of TETFund and recommend same to the university management for publication based on the guidelines.
He maintained that publication of books, conference attendance and workshops are essential prerequisites for attaining academic excellence in academics, stressing that publication of journal articles is also a fundamental requirement for the promotion of members of academic staff.
"The University of Maiduguri being a hub for training and retraining of people for human development, considered this training initiative by the manuscript development committee apt", he noted.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the committee, adding that it is clearly demonstrated that the committee's efforts in achieving its mandate as required.
He further called on the members of the university academic community to exploit the workshop to its fullest, so as to expose them to the requirements outlined by TETFund to access funding in order to develop their Ph.D and M.Sc manuscripts thesis into books.
He further stressed that the members of the academic community must therefore see research and publication as necessary impetus to propel them in their academic career.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the TETFund Manuscript Development Committee of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Ibrahim Maina Waziri stated that the development of academic manuscript into books is one of the many interventionist policies of the TETFund in tertiary institutions in Nigeria, with a mandate to oversee the implementation of the TETfund's requirement for accessing funding for the publication of original manuscripts into books.
Professor Waziri, maintained that since the inauguration of the TMDC in the University of Maiduguri, the committee has worked hard to revive the University of Maiduguri publishing house.
