NAMVEMS UNIMAID CHAPTER OFFERS VETERINARY OUTREACH AND CHARITY DRIVE IN DALORI COMMUNITY
The National Association of Muslim Veterinary Medical Students (NAMVEMS), University of Maiduguri chapter, on Friday 26th September , 2025, organized a career guidance program in veterinary medicine alongside a medical outreach and charity drive to the Dalori community.
The outreach featured free veterinary care, routine treatments, and humanitarian donations, including clothes, shoes, and other items collected from lecturers and students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Supervising the exercise, Dr. Umar Mustapha Bamanga, Coordinator of Clinical and Non-Clinical Services, highlighted that the initiative is aimed at providing basic veterinary services to animals in Dalori particularly livestock such as sheep, goats, cattle, as well as pets like cats and dogs, while also sensitizing residents on the importance of seeking veterinary services.
Dr. Bamanga emphasized that such exercises not only serve the community but also train veterinary students to develop empathy and compassion, qualities essential for future leaders.
Mustapha Muhammad Aisami, a final-year veterinary student, explained that the program’s main objective was community awareness and service. He added that the students see themselves as ambassadors of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Maiduguri, by providing humanitarian support and encouraging the community members to seek veterinary care for their animals, especially given that many human diseases originate from animals.
