NEW DIRECTOR OF CENTRE FOR ARID ZONE STUDIES VISITS INFORMATION & MEDIA DIRECTORATE 

The newly appointed Director of the TETFund Centre of Excellence – Centre for Arid Zone Studies (CAZS) at the University of Maiduguri, Professor S.B. Adamu, has commenced his tenure with a familiarization visit to the Directorate of Media and Information, reinforcing his commitment to transparency, visibility, and impactful outreach.

The visit took place on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Directorate’s office in the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building. It marked a symbolic and strategic step toward building institutional synergy between research and communication arms of the university.

In his remarks, Professor Adamu highlighted the indispensable role of media in projecting the Centre’s work to both local and global audiences. “The Directorate of Media and Information is not just a support unit—it is a critical partner. Our ability to effectively communicate our research, findings, and community impact depends on strong media collaboration,” he noted. He reiterated his desire to establish a mutually beneficial relationship that will amplify CAZS’s mission and promote awareness on issues related to arid zone development.

Welcoming the visit, the Acting Director of the Directorate, Mr. Abubakar S. Biye, expressed appreciation, noting that it was the first official visit received by the Directorate since he assumed leadership. He warmly commended Professor Adamu’s gesture, calling it a sign of inclusive leadership and forward-thinking.

Mr. Biye assured the CAZS Director of the Directorate’s full support, emphasizing that the Media and Information platforms of the university are always open to highlight, publicize, and support research-driven initiatives across the institution.

“This visit marks the beginning of a vibrant collaboration,” Biye stated, “and we are ready to work closely with CAZS to ensure its work gains the visibility and recognition it truly deserves.”

The meeting concluded with a shared vision of promoting research visibility and institutional impact, with both directors affirming their readiness to collaborate on strategic communication efforts that will enhance the university’s reputation as a centre of knowledge, innovation, and regional transformation.
