UNIVERSITY SIGNS MoU WITH OPAY FOR SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME
The University has officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with OPay Digital Services, joining a selected group of North-East universities set to benefit from a ₦1.2 billion, ten-year scholarship initiative. The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday, 20th August, 2025, at the University’s Annex Chamber, Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.
Mr. Itoro Udo, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at OPay, stated that the programme aims to alleviate the financial challenges faced by students and empower their academic pursuits. Under the scheme, twenty students of the University will receive annual scholarships of ₦300,000 each, totaling ₦60 million allocated to the university over the ten-year period.
“This scholarship reflects our commitment to investing in young people and making education more accessible, particularly in regions where opportunities are limited,” Mr. Udo emphasized.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yakubu Muktar, Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies, expressed heartfelt appreciation to OPay for the initiative. He noted that the scholarship would not only ease financial pressure on students but also motivate them to strive for academic excellence.
The University is proud to be one of the 16 institutions selected for this impactful programme. It stands as a significant investment in the university’s student and the future of the nation at large.
