The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has officially handed over a newly constructed building structure to the University of Maiduguri Demonstration Secondary School. The building structure constructed by the Borno State Education Trust Fund, comprises of classrooms, computer laboratory, home economics laboratory, library and Staff rooms for male and female staff.
The handing over ceremony which took place on Thursday, the 15th of May, 2025, by the Borno State governor Professor Babagana Zulum, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Bukar Tijjani. While handling over the building, Mallam Tijjani stated that Governor Zulum is known for fulfilling his promises and noted that this project is yet another testament to the Governor's commitment to supporting education in the state.
He emphasized that education remains a top priority for the Zulum administration, particularly in light of the challenges Borno State has faced over the past 16 years of the Boko Haram insurgency. Governor Zulum also commended the Chairperson of the Borno State Education Trust Fund for ensuring the timely delivery of the project and the University of Maiduguri for its resilience in the face of crises.
He assured the institution of the State Government's continued support for the education sector and encouraged the Students to study diligently, assuring them that the Government and the University's leadership would continue to support their academic journey and future aspirations.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, represented by Professor Muhammad Munkaila, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Governor Zulum and the Borno State government. He acknowledged the numerous ways the State Government has supported the University and praised its commitment to advancing education in Borno State.
The Principal of the University of Maiduguri Demonstration Secondary School, Hajiya Aisha Kaka Bukar, who spoke on behalf of the Staff and Students of the school, expressed profound gratitude over the remarkable infrastructure provided. She said that the new classrooms, laboratories, Staff rooms, and other facilities would significantly enhance the teaching and learning environment, especially in a region recovering from years of conflicts.
She further described Governor Zulum as a symbol of educational restoration and transformation not just in Borno State, but across Nigeria and assured him and the University management that the school would make the best possible use of the new facilities.
