UNIMAID DEPT. OF MICROBIOLOGY HOLDS 2nd COLLOQUIUM
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, has Applauded the Department of Microbiology for its unwavering commitment to academic excellence. He noted the department’s deliberate efforts to enhance its academic visibility locally, nationally, and globally.
Prof. Yakubu Mukhtar, Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed L. Mele made the commendation while declaring opened the 2nd colloquium of the department, held on April 23, 2025, at the Muhammadu Indimi International Conference Centre of the University.
He described the colloquium as a testimony to the department’s dedication to the university’s core mission: the pursuit of knowledge, advancement of research, and promotion of intellectual discourse. He further assured the department of continued management support for its initiatives.
In his welcome address, the Head of Department, Dr. Adam Mustapha, said the program was designed to bring together academics to discuss contemporary issues in the field of microbiology. He added that the event aims to foster collaboration and advance knowledge in microbiology and related fields. Dr. Mustapha also expressed appreciation to the university management for its support.
Delivering the Chairman’s remarks, Professor David N. Bukbuk highlighted the colloquium’s key presentations, including a paper by Dr. Hassana Kyari Manga titled “Orf Virus: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” Other presenters included Dr. Omomowo Olawale and Dr. Musa Ibn Abbas.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to outstanding Master’s (MSc) students of the depart
ment.
