The University of Maiduguri welcomed a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Education, led by Mr. Ocheido James on Tuesday,. The delegation was received at the Senate Annex of the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building to evaluate the University’s compliance with the White paper recommendations of the 2024 Presidential Visitation Panel.

It will be recalled that in April 2021, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as Visitor to the University, constituted a committee through the Federal Ministry of Education to carry out a presidential visitation panel exercise across all tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The aim was to promote accountability and ensure good governance within these institutions.

While receiving the evaluation team, the Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, reiterated the University’s commitment to upholding all established laws and implementing the recommendations of duly constituted authorities. He noted that the University began implementing the white paper recommendations immediately it was received. 

Professor Mele commended the Federal Government for its continued support of the Federal Universities and assured the delegation that the University of Maiduguri remains a Centre of Excellence.

In his remarks, the leader of the delegation and representative of the Minister of Education stated that the team would engage with the University’s management and Union Leaders to assess the level of implementation and compliance with the Visitation Panel’s recommendations.
