The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele receives a team from the Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall in his office at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Buiding on Wednesday, the 7th of May, 2025. TheĀ team which was led by its Director General, Ambassador Usman Aliyu made this courtesy call in an effort to seek the University's approval to partner with the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities
(SSANU) to train relevant University staff on Smart Agriculture.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammed Mele, while welcoming the team, indicated the management's readiness to support the program due its perceived impact on the University community. The Vice-Chancellor also described the program as a welcomed development and commended the leadership of UNIMAID SSANU, led by its Chairman, Comrade Sadiq Samaila for the initiative and efforts towards establishing shelterbelt, orchards and climate smart agriculture within the University campus.
In his remarks, the Director General, Borno state Agency for the Great Green Wall, Ambassador Usman Aliyu expressed his appreciation to the University management for their support; and SSANU leadership for the partnership regarding the smart agriculture and orchard farming which he believes would make positive impact on the University community in many ways. He also stated that the Agency would commence the first batch of the training with 50 staff of the University as soon as possible.
