27th NUGA GAMES, UNIJOS

The University of Maiduguri was among the 91 universities that participated in the colorful opening ceremony and match-past of the 27th Nigerian University Games (NUGA), held on Wednesday the 8th October, 2025, at the University of Jos Stadium.

The University is participating in 14 sporting events at this year’s competition, including Football, Basketball (Male), Volleyball (Male & Female), Handball (Male), Table Tennis (Male Team), Tennis (Men’s Singles and Doubles), and Judo (Female and Male categories). In the Taekwondo events, the University athletes will compete in the Female Singles +78kg and -63kg categories, as well as Male +100kg, -100kg, -90kg, -81kg, -73kg, -66kg, and -60kg categories.

In athletics, the University of Maiduguri will be represented in several track and field events. Female athletes will feature in the 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 2000m, 3000m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 100m hurdles, and 400m hurdles, while the male athletes will compete in the 4x100m relay, discus, and long jump events.

The University’s contingent has expressed optimism for an impressive outing, with high expectations to return home with medals across the various events.
