MEDICAL AND DENTAL COUNCIL OF NIGERIA VISITS UNIMAID FOR ACCREDITATION EXERCISE
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has paid an accreditation visit to the University of Maiduguri to evaluate the College of Medical Sciences. The visit was held at the office of the Vice Chancellor on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, welcomed the high-powered delegation of senior medical professionals and education experts from the Council. In his remarks, he expressed appreciation to the MDCN for its consistent efforts in upholding quality and professionalism in medical education across the country.
Professor Mele reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing competent, ethical, and compassionate healthcare professionals capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving health challenges. He emphasized that the College of Medical Sciences remains one of the pillars of excellence that defines the University of Maiduguri’s reputation.
Leading the MDCN delegation, Dr. Nna Emeka Nwakanma commended the university for its resilience and dedication to medical education, especially in the face of challenges. He explained that the accreditation exercise was not only to assess performance but also to identify areas for improvement and strengthen compliance with national standards.
The exercise focused on two key programmes: Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with the goal of ensuring they meet the professional and academic benchmarks required for medical and dental training in Nigeria.
