UNIVERSITY CHANCELLOR HRH HON. JUSTICE SIDI BAGE MUHAMMAD I CFR, JSC APPOINTED CHANCELLOR OF NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY, KANO
His Royal Highness, Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I, CFR, JSC (rtd.), the Emir of Lafian, Bare-Bari,and Chairman Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs and Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano.
In his acceptance speech, HRH Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I commended the institution for its vital role in developing critical manpower essential for national growth. He expressed admiration for the university’s academic programmes and thematic research areas, emphasizing that they are tailored towards nation-building and addressing pressing societal issues.
The Chancellor congratulated the Government of Kano State for establishing Northwest University to bridge the gap in human capital development. While acknowledging the financial challenges of managing a state university, the Chancellor lauded the governor's unwavering commitment to education and his efforts in mobilizing resources from various avenues to ensure adequate funding.
Justice Bage further praised the strong collaboration between the university’s Senate, Governing Council, and both outstanding members of staff of the institution which he noted has significantly advanced the institution’s goals and aspirations.
Addressing the graduating students, he urged them to be worthy ambassadors of Northwest University wherever they go. He assured them that the university has invested heavily in providing a sound education that blends academic excellence with character development. According to him, the institution’s structured programmes are designed to prepare students for industry, self-reliance, and resilience in facing life’s challenges.
In conclusion, the Chancellor pledged to diligently fulfill his responsibilities with the help and guidance of Almighty Allah. He vowed to uphold the founding principles of the university and to collaborate with all stakeholders in the pursuit of excellence at Northwest University, Kano.
The occasion was graced by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, the Registrar, Ahmad Alhaji Lawan, and the University Bursar, Ibrahim Umar. They were present to show their solidarity and to celebrate the appointment of HRH Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I as Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano. The University team had earlier paid homage to the Chancellor at his lodge in Government House, Kano, where they discussed developmental issues ahead of the program.
The event also featured a Convocation Lecture, Chancellor’s Night, and award presentations to outstanding non-teaching staff members.
